The staff of Queen's Behavioral Health Services really believes in their mission-right down to the last panel of drywall. Kaheiheimalie was recently blessed as the new home of Queen's Counseling Services and Day Treatment Services. "A few walls were allowed to remain," joked Ken Hansen about the clinical team's changes late into the renovation process. "The clinical team was involved in the design of the building to accommodate patient needs," continued Hansen, who is Manager of Mental Health and Day Treatment Services. Kaheiheimalie is the new name given to the old Chock-Pang Clinic (on the corner of Vineyard Blvd. and Nuuanu Ave.). Kaheiheimalie (1784-1842) was the grandmother of Queen's co-founder, Kamehameha IV.
The third floor houses Queen's Counseling Services, which offers a variety services for conditions such as depression, excessive anxiety, irrational fears, panic attacks, mood swings, relationship problems and other indications of the stressful times in which we live. Assessment, individual and group therapy, interpersonal learning and education, and psychological and neuropsychological testing are available.
Day Treatment Services, located on the second floor, offers psychiatrically ill, chemically addicted or dually diagnosed patients opportunities to stabilize acute conditions, resolve crises, establish sobriety and begin recovery while remaining in the community. Both floors have therapy rooms which make efficient use of space. The first floor has a large, multi-purpose room.

Naleen Andrade, MD, Chairwoman of the QMC Board of Trustees, stated that behavioral health is a part of Queen's mission to preserve the well being of the people of Hawai'i. "We are continuing to serve the people with leading edge health care," she said, "We will restore the cores of [people's] breached relationships to the world and those around them."
