Respiratory Patients at Queen's Benefit from New, Advanced Technology Ventilators |
The Queen's Medical Center has begun to replace its ventilators with advanced technology ones like the one in the photo. Some 20 units of the new ventilators are already being used on the floors.
The Queen's annual fund-raiser by the Queen's Auxiliary, the Festival of Trees, is helping Respiratory Care with its goal of eventually replacing all of the older units by donating money raised during last year's Christmas event. Because the new ventilators allow breathing with much less effort, patients need less sedation and can therefore be weaned sooner. The new ventilator can also be used for newborn infants to adults, and can be used to transport patients-without disconnection-from the Emergency Room to the Operating Room or ICU by using its internal battery. |
