Queen's Forms Partnership with Wal-Mart to Promote Women's Health |
 |
Free blood tests checked cholesterol levels. |
Packed like a revival tent meeting, nearly 500 people thronged the canvas canopy in the Wal-Mart Mililani parking lot recently, as The Queen's Medical Center forged a partnership with the retail giant and called on Hawaii's women to take a second look at their health. Although many women's health services have always been available at Queen's, a new emphasis has been placed on the issue. Many studies point to the fact that women need to be concerned about diseases like heart disease-the number one killer of women-in addition to more widely publicized issues such as breast exams.

Queen's Food and Nutritional Services team provides the right stuff for a heart healthy diet. |
Participants were given printed "passports" to visit booths showcasing women's health services at Queen's, as well as free blood pressure, body composition and cholesterol tests. Free Healing Touch treatments and healthy fruit smoothies were also offered, and participants learned about breast health, nutrition and exercise. In addition, the Queen's Health Care Centers Kapolei Clinic presented their specialty care offerings for women, as did service lines at The Queen's Medical Center, including Maternity Services, Women's Heart Advantage, the Elder Wellness Program and the new Women's Health Services department at Queen's. |
