HONOLULU – The Queen’s Health System (QHS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. T. Scott Gallacher as Chief of Medicine for the Health System. In this role, Dr. Gallacher will be the physician lead for our Medicine Clinical Program.  He will be responsible for developing evidence-based care processes and programs pertaining to the Medicine Service across QHS.  He will share operational, financial, and strategic planning responsibilities for the Medicine Service with his dyad partner, Kelly Johnson, Sr. VP of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer.  Dr. Gallacher will also work in close partnership with the QHS Chief Quality Officer, Dr. Todd Allen.

Dr. Gallacher, in addition to this new role leading our Medicine Clinical Program in Medicine, will also serve as the elected Chief of Staff for the QMC Medical Staff.

A product of JABSOM and the UHIMRP, Dr. Gallacher returned to Hawaii in 2001 after fellowship training.  Dr. Gallacher led the development of our pulmonary and critical care services and enhanced access to specialty care for our Neighbor Island partners through tele-pulmonary/-ICU/-in person clinics. He brings significant administrative experience to his new roles. He apprenticed as Assistant Chief of Medicine under Dr. Ron Morton and has spent the last two years as Chief of the Department of Medicine. Dr. Gallacher has successfully modernized the department’s infrastructure and engaged a wide variety (8 divisions) of medicine, primary care and specialty practices in the aspiration of a higher professionalism bar, and developing a collaborative, productive, and well-informed team.

Dr. Gallacher’s leadership was key to QHS’ successful response to the COVID pandemic. We look forward to his continued productive collaboration as the Health System enters a strategic planning phase to transform our Queen’s Network and both build and strengthen our foundation.

As Dr. Gallacher moves into his new role, the Medical ICU leadership will transition to Dr. Christopher Fiack in a reimagined and expanded role as Medical Director, Pulmonary Critical Care Sleep Medicine (PCCSM).  Dr. Fiack will oversee both the ambulatory and inpatient services across the Health System with component areas tasked to Associate Directors:  Dr. Gehan Devendra (Pulmonary Consultations), Dr. Chunrong Lin (West Oahu), Dr. Brent Tatsuno (Punchbowl MICU) and Dr. Bradley Tokeshi (Ambulatory Clinics).  Dr. Fiack’s goals include better collaboration with other QHS ICU’s, further developing clinical programs in pulmonary medicine and encouraging scholarly activity among PCCSM team members.

Dr. Fiack trained on the mainland, completing a fellowship at Boston University where he specialized in pulmonary vascular disease.  He joined Queen’s in 2008 as an early member of our critical care team.  He has served as both Associate Director of the MICU and Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Program since 2010.   He is committed to our teaching mission and serves as the current Chair of QMG’s Research and Education Committee.

We are pleased to welcome both Dr. Gallacher and Dr. Fiack to their new roles.
