The Queen’s Health Systems to expand further into West O‘ahu with facility planned at Ho‘opili

For Immediate Release

HONOLULU, HI (August 30, 2019) – The Queen’s Medical Center and D.R. Horton Hawai‘i today announced the sale of approximately 4.9 acres of BMX-3 zoned land at Ho‘opili to develop an ambulatory medicine center aimed at providing health and wellness along with medical services to West O‘ahu patients.

“As Queen’s continues to expand our reach into our communities, we want to assure that we are providing services that promote health, wellness and high-quality medical care in a healing environment,” says Bernadette Merlino, Vice President for Ambulatory Care at Queen’s. “The vision of Ho‘opili to develop a community that has access to all types of services close to home resonates with our vision of providing health care close to home. Queen’s commitment to expand services in West O‘ahu is also demonstrated by the anticipated expansion of The Queen’s Medical Center-West O‘ahu.”

Preliminary plans include a total concept from wellness activities to urgent care and medical services such as team-based primary care, specialty services and support services such as diagnostic imaging, pharmacy and lab.

“This is a defining moment in Ho‘opili’s establishment as Oahu’s newest spectacular place. We are both privileged and humbled to welcome an organization with one of the finest reputations in Hawai‘i,” said Bob Bruhl, president, D.R. Horton Hawai‘i. “The possibilities for enhanced medical services they will provide to our residents and the greater ‘Ewa region are endless. This is a big win for West O‘ahu.”

Located at the future main entrance to Ho‘opili near the Keone‘ae (UH-West O‘ahu) rail station, the Queen’s facility is the first owner-user business partner in the TOD (transit oriented- development) area of Ho‘opili.

To date, approximately 567 homes have been sold at Ho‘opili, including single-family homes, ADUs, duplexes, townhomes and FLEX Homes®, where residents may operate a business in the same space as their residence. The first community amenity, Kōnane Neighborhood Park, is a popular gathering space featuring a pavilion, playground equipment and a large playing field.

About Ho‘opili

Ho‘opili is planned to be a mixed-use community that has been thoughtfully designed around the core principles of providing attainable housing for Hawai‘i’s working families, agricultural stewardship, education, multi-modal transportation and job creation.
