2022 SUMMER RESEARCH INTERNSHIP
CALL FOR APPLICANTS

Applications are now being accepted for the 2022 Summer Research Internship (SRI) program, which will run from June 6 to August 12, 2022. This program is offered by The Queen’s Medical Center, Office of Research & Development in collaboration with the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine, Department of Native Hawaiian Health.
This competitive internship is intended for undergraduate college students who are interested in a career in medicine and research. Five (5) selected applicants will have the opportunity to:
- Learn many of the necessary skills for conducting research.
- Assist an investigator on a research project resulting in a final report and presentation at the end of the ten-week program.
- Tour the UH medical school and various hospital facilities.
- “Shadow” physicians and researchers.
- Participate in cultural and community activities relevant to Native Hawaiian health.
The three primary focus areas of the SRI program are:
Didactics: Weekly seminars and lectures on topics such as Introduction to Research, Study Design and Statistical Methods.
Mentored Research Project: Participation on a research project under the guidance of a Queen’s Principal Investigator. Results of the study will be detailed in a final report and presented at a reception held at the conclusion of the program.
Clinical Observation: Shadow physicians in the hospital and/or office clinics. Clinical units may include, but are not limited to: Internal Medicine, Surgery, OB/GYN, Gastroenterology, Intensive Care, and Cardiology.
