Heart failure occurs when the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs for blood and oxygen. Of the more than 6 million Americans living with heart failure, about 10 percent have advanced heart failure, according to the American Heart Association. Patients with advanced HF now have more treatment options that can improve their quality of life.
