Dr. Kazuma Nakagawa is a neurologist who specializes in stroke, cerebrovascular disease and neurocritical care. As a neurointensivist, he cares for critically ill patients with severe brain injuries such as severe stroke and traumatic brain injury in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit. As the Medical Director of Queen’s Comprehensive Stroke Center, he oversees all aspects of stroke care including Emergency Department treatment, inpatient and outpatient care to ensure continuity of care throughout the entire patient journey. As a Co-Director of the Queen’s Neuro-Cardiology Program, Dr. Nakagawa collaborates closely with the Queen’s Interventional Cardiology team to evaluate and treat patients with structural heart disease who are at risk for stroke.

Dr. Nakagawa has led multiple clinical research studies as a Principal Investigator, and also received multiple teaching and research awards. He is currently involved in multi-center clinical trials for acute stroke treatment and stroke prevention.

Dr. Nakagawa is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine.
