Heart Healthy 101

What is heart healthy eating and how does it actually help our bodies? A Heart Healthy Diet emphasizes the importance of eating lean protein, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It is important to limit the amount of saturated fat and sodium consumed. Although this lifestyle is typically for people with heart disease, the whole family can decrease their risk of cardiovascular disease by following along.

Saturated Fat: Limiting the amount of saturated fat in your diet can decrease your chances of heart-related conditions, like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or coronary artery disease. Avoid or have less of foods like fatty meats, whole milk, cream and butter.
