Looking to get healthier in the New Year?

About 31 percent of America is making the resolution to get healthier in the New Year by exercising more or losing weight. If you’re one of them, make plans to:

  • Walk 5,000 to 10,000 steps a day
  • Drink 8 glasses of water daily
  • Opt for healthier options when you can

And while almost everyone can benefit from eating healthier, drinking more water and being more active, there are other options available that can help you achieve your health and weight loss goals:

  • A medically-managed weight loss program
  • Bariatric surgery

medically-managed weight loss program can teach individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of 27 or more to keep off the weight that is lost by targeting the root cause of weight gain and providing the tools needed for successful long-term weight maintenance.

Bariatric surgery is for primarily to help individuals who are at least 100 pounds overweight, or who have a BMI of:

  • 40 or more
  • 35 or more and have significant weight-related health issues such as diabetes or sleep apnea
  • 30 or more and have type 2 diabetes

These options aren’t just about weight loss, either. Many individuals who participate in a medically-managed weight loss program or who choose to have bariatric surgery often also:

  • Improve their mobility
  • Have increased energy
  • Feel more self-confident
  • Decrease or stop taking medications for weight-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes
