Pancreas Transplant Program

The Pancreas Transplant Program at Queen’s provides evaluation, surgery and post-surgical care for select patients with insulin-dependent diabetes. A pancreas transplant is usually done in combination with a kidney transplant for those patients with kidney failure due to their diabetes.

This procedure allows patients to be free of insulin injections, dialysis and further complications of diabetes, including eye and nerve problems.

The first combined pancreas/kidney transplant was performed in Hawaii in 1993 and since that time, more than 40 pancreas transplants have been performed by our surgeons and staff.
