The Queen’s Medical Center Manamana (Punchbowl) & West Oahu Receive Re-Certification For High Quality Cancer Care From Largest Oncology Society In U.S.

As part of its dedication to providing high-quality cancer care, The Queen’s Medical Center-Manamana (Punchbowl) and The Queen’s Medical Center-West Oahu have received re-certification by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Certification Program, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Inc. (ASCO®).  The re-certification is valid for three years.

QOPI certification reflects a commitment to quality of care that leads to fundamental change in the ongoing and ever-changing clinical practice of oncology.  In achieving re-certification Queen’s met QOPI’s core standards in all areas of treatment including:

  • Treatment planning
  • Staff training and education
  • Chemotherapy orders and drug preparation
  • Patient consent and education
  • Safe chemotherapy administration
  • Monitoring and assessment of patient well-being

“This recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing our cancer patients with high quality, safe, and compassionate care,” said Kristen Chun, RN, BSN, Vice President of Patient Care for Oncology, Women’s Health, and Pediatrics at The Queen’s Health System.  “Our oncology caregivers work tirelessly to provide our patients and their families with support, comfort, and healing.”

QOPIis an oncologist-led, practice-based quality assessment program that provides practices with a standard methodology, a robust library of quality metrics for oncology, and a collection tool to inform quality improvement activities and demonstrate quality to patients and external stakeholders. The QOPI Certification Program recognizes high-quality care for outpatient hematology-oncology practices within the United States and in certain other countries. Practices receive QOPI Certification based on their full compliance with the QOPI Certification Standards as assessed during an on-site survey.
