U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals (2018 - 2019)

The Queen's Medical Center was recognized as a Best Hospital in 2018 - 2019 by U.S. News & World Report. The Center ranked in the top 50 hospitals nationally in five specialties: Diabetes and Endocrinology, Gynecology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Nephrology and Urology. The Center also ranked as High Performing (in the top 10% of hospitals) in the following specialties: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, and lung cancer surgery.

Newsweek Best Hospitals (2019)

The Queen's Medical Center was recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States by Newsweek. One thousand hospitals were selected based on recommendations from medical professionals, patient survey results and medical performance indicators. The list ranked Queen's as #87 hospital in the country. No other Hawaii hospital is on the list.

Magnet Recognition Program®

The Queen's Medical Center is the first and only hospital in Hawaii to achieve Magnet Recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Magnet recognizes excellence in nursing and is their highest institutional honor for hospital excellence.

Level I Trauma Center

The Queen's Medical Center is verified as a Level 1 Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons. As the state's designated trauma center, Queen's plays a vital role in the State Trauma System and provides the highest level of patient care across the injury continuum from prevention through rehabilitation.

Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute Affiliation

The Queen's Medical Center has a collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute to advance patient safety and quality through shared innovations, education and learning.

MD Anderson Cancer Network® Affiliation

The Queen's Medical Center is a certified member of MD Anderson Cancer Network® to advance the level of care in Hawaii. The network is a program of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Comprehensive Epilepsy Center

The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at The Queen's Medical Center Neuroscience Institute is the only program in Hawaii accredited by the NAEC as a level 4 epilepsy center. Level 4 epilepsy centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

Comprehensive Stroke Center

The Queen's Medical Center is the first hospital in Hawaii to be awarded The Joint Commission - Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification for Comprehensive Stroke Centers. This certification marks the highest level of stroke care by The Joint Commission and sets apart those hospitals that have specific abilities to treat the most complex stroke cases. 

Commission on Cancer 

The Queen's Medical Center was awarded approval with commendations by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer (CoC). Receiving care at a CoC-approved cancer program ensures that patients have access to comprehensive care, including a range of state-of-the-art services and equipment.

Transplant Center

The Queen's Transplant Center, Hawaii's only organ transplantation program, continues its membership in the national Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN). Membership means that Queen's transplant programs are certified by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and that Queen's plays an active role in forming the policies that govern the Hawaii transplant community.

Orthopedic and Spine Center

The Queen's Medical Center was awarded Advanced Certification in Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement from The Joint Commission.

Breast Center National Accreditation

The Queen's Medical Center Breast Center was granted full reaccreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. This is the highest level of accreditation a breast center can receive. 

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

The Queen's Medical Center was designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This award recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned full accreditation in all of the ACR's voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation program. 

HomeCare Elite® Top Agency

North Hawaii Community Hospital's Kohala Home Healthcare was selected as one of the top Medicare-certified home health agencies in the U.S. based on quality outcomes, best practice implementation, patient experience, quality improvement and consistency, and annual financial performance. 

Baby-Friendly Birth Facility

North Hawaii Community Hospital received prestigious international recognition as a Baby-Friendly designated birth facility by Baby-Friendly USA, Inc. The Baby-Friendly Initiative is a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
