As Hawai‘i’s health care leader, The Queen’s Health System and its hospitals, including The Queen’s Medical Center, strive for the highest quality as we carry out our mission. We are honored by these awards, recognitions and affiliations: 

U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals (2022-2023)

The Queen’s Medical Center was named the #1 hospital in Hawai‘i for 2022-2023 by U.S. News & World Report. Queen’s also ranked in the top 50 hospitals nationally for gastroenterology and GI surgery, orthopedics, and cancer care, and was rated as “High Performing” in geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and lung surgery, and urology. U.S. News also recognized Queen’s as “High Performing” in the following procedures/conditions: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip fracture, hip replacement, kidney failure, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery, ovarian cancer surgery, pneumonia, prostate cancer surgery, stroke, and uterine cancer surgery.

Recognized by Becker's for Outstanding Orthopedics (2023)

Becker’s Hospital Review recognized the Orthopedic Institute at The Queen’s Medical Center for excellence in applying a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. The Institute’s Joint Center was the first in Hawai‘i to gain Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. The Institute has also been awarded Blue’s Distinction for Spine Surgery by Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Level I Trauma Center

The Queen’s Medical Center has been reverified as a Level I Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons through August 2024. As the state’s designated trauma center, Queen’s plays a vital role in the State Trauma System and provides the highest level of patient care across the injury continuum from prevention through rehabilitation.

Newsweek Best Hospitals (2022)

The Queen’s Medical Center was recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States in 2022 by Newsweek. Hospitals were ranked based on recommendations from medical professionals, patient experience survey results, and medical performance indicators. Queen’s was the highest-rated Hawai‘i hospital on Newsweek’s list.

Star-Advertiser People’s Choice Awards: Hawai‘i’s Best Hospital (2023)

The Queen’s Medical Center is honored to be chosen as Hawai‘i’s Best Hospital in 2023 by readers of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. 

Outstanding Patient Experience Award (2022)

Healthgrades has recognized The Queen’s Medical Center with its Outstanding Patient Experience Award for 2022. The evaluation of data from patient surveys was based on nine measures related to doctor and nurse communication, hospital cleanliness and noise levels, and medication and post-discharge care instructions.

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade of “A” (Spring 2023)

The Queen’s Medical Center – Manamana/Punchbowl and The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu have each received a Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade of “A” for Spring 2023. This national distinction recognizes both hospitals’ achievements in protecting patients from harm and error.

Magnet Recognition Program® (2009 - Ongoing)

The Queen’s Medical Center is the first and only hospital in Hawai‘i to achieve Magnet Recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Magnet recognizes excellence in nursing and is their highest institutional honor for hospital excellence.

Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute Affiliation

The Queen’s Medical Center has a collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute to advance patient safety and quality through shared innovations, education and learning.

Comprehensive Epilepsy Center

The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at The Queen’s Medical Center Neuroscience Institute is the only program in Hawai‘i accredited by the NAEC as a level 4 epilepsy center. Level 4 epilepsy centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

Comprehensive Stroke Center

The Queen’s Medical Center is the first hospital in Hawai‘i to be awarded The Joint Commission – Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification for Comprehensive Stroke Centers. This certification marks the highest level of stroke care by The Joint Commission and sets apart those hospitals that have specific abilities to treat the most complex stroke cases.

Commission on Cancer

The Queen’s Medical Center was awarded approval with commendations by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC). Receiving care at a CoC-approved cancer program ensures that patients have access to comprehensive care, including a range of state-of-the-art services and equipment.

Transplant Center

The Queen’s Transplant Center, Hawai‘i’s only organ transplantation program, continues its membership in the national Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN). Membership means that Queen’s transplant programs are certified by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and that Queen’s plays an active role in forming the policies that govern the Hawai‘i transplant community.

Orthopedic and Spine Center

The Queen’s Medical Center was awarded Advanced Certification in Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement from The Joint Commission.

Breast Center National Accreditation

The Queen’s Medical Center Breast Center was granted full reaccreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. This is the highest level of accreditation a breast center can receive.

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

The Queen’s Medical Center was designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This award recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned full accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation program.

Baby-Friendly Birth Facility

Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital received prestigious international recognition as a Baby-Friendly designated birth facility by Baby-Friendly USA, Inc. The Baby-Friendly Initiative is a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital’s Kohala Home Healthcare was selected as one of the top Medicare-certified home health agencies in the U.S. based on quality outcomes, best practice implementation, patient experience, quality improvement and consistency, and annual financial performance.
