George "Rick" Bruno, MD

President, Queen’s Medical Center and President, Queen’s University Medical Group

Rick Bruno, MD, is the President of The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC) and the President of Queen’s University Medical Group (QUMG). In this dual role, he provides management oversight for the acute care services at the Queen’s Medical Center’s two campuses and for the ambulatory practice of the medical group. He oversees the medical group’s 685 providers which include physicians, advanced practice providers, and psychologists. He also manages the professional service agreements that The Queen’s Health System has with its community physicians.

Dr. Bruno’s leadership was instrumental during QHS’ three-party Affiliation Agreement with The University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine and University Health Partners, an innovative partnership that created QUMG to enhance education and training for the next generation of health care professionals and improve care delivery models for the residents of Hawai‘i. Under his leadership, QUMG has seen significant growth, increased the number of primary care providers, and recruited numerous specialists as QUMG continues to build and recruit the next generation of providers.

Dr. Bruno joined The Queen’s Medical Center in 2015 as Medical Director for the Transfer Call Center. In 2016, he was appointed Associate Chief Medical Officer, becoming responsible for physician credentialing and Medical Staff Services policy administration, as well as supporting physician alignment initiatives critical to QMC. Prior to being appointed President of Queen’s Medical Group (now Queen’s University Medical Group), Dr. Bruno served as a Vice President of Patient Care overseeing several service lines, including Surgery, ED, and Cardiology.

He also serves as a liaison to the medical community, such as the John A. Burns School of Medicine, community physicians, payers, and medical societies, to establish positive and collaborative relationships. He also serves as executive sponsor of Queen’s Facility Dog program which is run in partnership with Assistance Dogs of Hawaii.

Dr. Bruno received his Doctor of Medicine from Yale University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at New York University and Bellevue Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. In his spare time, Dr. Bruno enjoys watching college football, yoga, hiking the ‘Aiea Loop Trail, and walking his dog, Mikey.
