HONOLULU – The Queen’s Health System (QHS) has named a new vice president and two new directors.
Beryl Muniz has been named Vice President of Patient Care for Surgical Services and Emergency/Trauma Services.
Muniz will be responsible for developing and implementing business and strategic plans to meet QHS’ goals and objectives for Surgical Services, Emergency Services and Trauma Services. She will be accountable for the effective business and operational management and delivery of quality patient care.
Muniz previously served as Vice President of Perioperative, Endoscopy and Women’s Services for NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center (NYP/WC), where she led teams to deliver winning outcomes in a high-volume environment. Prior to her 12-year tenure at NYP/WC, she held Associate VP and Director positions at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., and Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Muniz holds a Master of Administrative Science degree in Management from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland University College, and is a licensed Registered Nurse.
Irene Puʻuohau has been named Director of Labor and Employee Relations.
Puʻuohau will manage and direct divisional relations for QHS, including union negotiations and contract administration. She will also implement and sustain foundational pillars for developing and engaging employees to enhance and promote employee culture and experience.
Puʻuohau previously served as Senior Manager for Labor Relations at Hawaii Pacific Health. Prior to that, she held various leadership positions in Hawaii’s public and private sector unions, including United Public Workers, Hawaii Government Employees Association, Hawaii Nurses Association, and Hawaii Fire Fighters Association.
Tamara Pappas has been named Director of Queen’s Clinically Integrated Physician Network (QCIPN).
Pappas will work in collaboration with providers to further develop QHS’ network of care to enhance patient experience across the continuum. She will develop infrastructure and resources aimed at enhancing QCIPN’s capabilities around population health management. She will also continue as Program Director for the Advanced Quality Training Program (AQTP).
Pappas has been at QHS for five years. She spent four of those years as Director of the Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation, where she helped lead data-driven clinical quality improvement. Over the past year, she has served as Director of Ambulatory Planning. Prior to joining QHS, Pappas was the Director of Quality Operations at Hawaii Pacific Health.
