QHS Names Darryn Dunbar, Director of Critical Care Services, QMC-West Oʻahu; James Gomes, Director of Facilities Design, Planning & Construction, QMC-Punchbowl; Colette Masunaga, Director of External Affairs & Special Projects, QHS

HONOLULU – The Queen’s Health System (QHS) has named three new directors.

Darryn Dunbar, DNP, APRN, CNM, NEA-BC, has been named Director of Critical Care Services at The Queen’s Medical Center – West Oʻahu (QMC-West Oʻahu).

Dunbar will be responsible for the oversight and strategic leadership of the services programs, functions and activities of the Emergency Department, the Intensive Care Unit and the Crisis Response Team. He will ensure services meet established quality, safety and outcome standards while maintaining fiscal integrity and control.

Dunbar comes to QHS with a wealth of knowledge and extensive health care leadership experience. He has held a variety of leadership positions, most recently at Stratford University as the Director of Online Nursing and BSN Completion Programs and Faculty, and at Johns Hopkins Medicine at Sibley Memorial Hospital as the Director of Nursing and Patient Care Services. He has Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Nursing, and is an Advanced Nurse Executive and Nurse-Midwife.

James Gomes has been named Director of Facilities Design, Planning and Construction at The Queen’s Medical Center – Punchbowl (QMC).

Gomes will help ensure the efficient planning, operation and preservation of all properties and equipment within QHS. He will be responsible for the planning, organization, control and integration of renovation and construction projects for facilities at various locations. He will serve as a consultant to the executive and management staff in facility and strategic planning projects and initiatives.

Most recently, Gomes served as the Senior Director for Cummings Corporation Hawaii. He has more than 40 years of experience performing project management for projects around the world.

Colette Masunaga has been named Director of External Affairs and Special Projects at QHS.

Masunaga will lead the state and local government relations team, and will be responsible for the direction of all government and public policy initiatives and advocacy. She will also provide skilled support to the Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, as well as the President and Chief Executive Officer on a variety of strategic initiatives and significant special projects, and will conduct long-range planning for the organization.

Masunaga began her career at QHS in 2015 as a Legislative Analyst, and most recently served as Manager of Government Relations and External Affairs. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business from the University of California, Davis, and her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa.
