The Queen’s Medical Center – Wahiawā held a blessing ceremony today for its new, state-of-the-art computed tomography (CT) scanner, now housed in the hospital’s expanded Emergency Department.
Queen’s – Wahiawā leaders, staff, and invited guests attended the blessing, which included the untying of the maile lei.
The new CT scanner, located in a fully renovated CT room inside the Emergency Department, replaces the hospital’s previous mobile CT machine that was positioned outside the facility. The upgrade delivers faster, more efficient imaging services while providing higher-quality images with lower radiation exposure for patients.
“Bringing this advanced CT scanner into our Emergency Department increases seamless access to life-saving emergent services to better serve our Wahiawā, Central O‘ahu, and North Shore communities,” said Robin Kalohelani, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Queen’s – West Oʻahu and Queen’s – Wahiawā. “We remain committed to the mission of our founders, Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV, to provide in perpetuity, quality health care services to improve the well-being of Native Hawaiians and all the people of Hawaiʻi, and this new CT scanner will help us achieve that for years to come.”
Beyond imaging, additional Emergency Department renovations are planned in the coming year to enhance patient care. This will include:
- Increasing the number of treatment rooms from 16 to 25
- Expanding the Emergency Department’s size to accommodate the latest in medical technology
- Expanding the waiting room and registration area to enhance patient movement and time efficiency
- Improving entrance security with a new screening and bag scanning system to replace manual bag checks to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff
“This continued expansion will help ensure that patients can receive comprehensive care closer to home, which can minimize travel and support better health outcomes in the process,” says Kalohelani.
The Queen’s Health Systems acquired Queen’s – Wahiawā in April 2024 from Wahiawā General Hospital. The hospital has been serving Hawaiʻi since 1957.
