The Queen’s Health Systems (Queen’s) is excited to announce the Queen’s Advanced Lung Institute; a multi-disciplinary team of experts committed to early diagnosis and providing high-quality lung cancer care to our community, where patients can be diagnosed, staged and treated in one setting.
The Queen’s Advanced Lung Institute features:
- The State’s first AI nodule detection program that enhances early diagnosis of lung cancer
- The State’s only multi-disciplinary lung nodule clinic
- Dedicated lung cancer screening and smoking cessation programs
- A streamlined process that reduces the timeline from diagnosis to surgical treatment from an average of 8 weeks to less than 4 hours
- Precision medicine for lung cancer treatment personalized for each patient
- The State’s first ION Navigational platform; a fully robotic, minimally invasive procedure for evaluation of lung nodules, Queen’s program is the most established, with the best safety record
- The State’s largest robotic surgery center for lung cancer treatment
With these new innovations, Queen’s has already been able to perform 650 biopsies and diagnose 325 lung cancer cases over the last two years that would have gone either undetected or treated at a later stage.
The Queen’s Advanced Lung Institute is led by:
- Dr. Taryne Imai, a Honolulu native and Queen’s Thoracic Surgery Program Director
- Dr. Bradley Tokeshi, a Honolulu native and Queen’s Pulmonary Ambulatory Medical Director
- A multi-disciplinary staff who are committed to improving lung health for Hawaiʻi residents and those throughout the Pacific
“Hawaiʻi has ranked last in the nation for early diagnosis of lung cancer for three consecutive years, and our mission is to change that,” said Dr. Imai. “The Queen’s Advanced Lung Institute is a game-changer for early detection and treatment for our community and offers hope for a cure.”
“We are pleased to offer this type of service to our patients, all in an effort to reshape and lead Hawaiʻi’s vision in lung cancer care using an innovative approach to provide the highest level of comprehensive care,” said Dr. Whitney Limm, The Queen’s Health Systems Executive Vice President of Clinical Integration & Chief Physician Executive. “This highlights our commitment of ensuring the health and well-being of our community.”
According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for both men and women in Hawaiʻi and across the U.S. For more information about Queen’s Advanced Lung Institute, click here or call 808-686-LUNG (5864).
