Rehabilitation Services at Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital helps patients return to normal activities through a combination of physical, occupational, speech, and massage therapies, all in one location on the Big Island.

Our outstanding team of professionals provides quality, evidence-based evaluation and treatment to inpatients as well as those referred by their physician for outpatient care.

With exceptional skills and a high level of service, our physical therapists and assistants, occupational therapists and assistants, speech-language pathologists, and massage therapists are committed to working together to make sure that our patients know how much we care for them, and that while they are here, they are members of our ‘ohana. We have what our patients need – knowledge, manual skills, equipment, and an understanding staff – to restore movement and get back to normal life.

Our Services

With exceptional skills and a high level of service, every team member within Rehabilitation Services is committed to working together to ensure that our patients have the appropriate knowledge, manual skills and equipment to restore movement and get back to normal life. Services for our patients include:

  • Physical Therapy: assists individuals to restore and promote optimal physical function, wellness, fitness, and quality of life as it relates to movement and health.
  • Speech Therapy: helps individuals overcome problems with speech, swallowing, language, and cognitive aspects of communication and sensory awareness.
  • Pediatric Physical Therapy helps children maximize their independence and participation within the home, school and community.

  • Vestibular Rehabilitation: treatment for dizziness, vertigo, and balance problems, provided by a certified vestibular specialist.
  • Occupational Therapy: helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives. Occupational therapists assist people in developing the skills necessary for independent and satisfying lives.
  • Pelvic Rehabilitation: treatment for patients with urinary control and pelvic pain problems.
  • Functional Capacity Exams: customized tests designed to assure that the injured worker is ready to return to work. Testing is customized for the worker’s environment.
  • Massage Therapy or therapeutic massage: addresses soft tissue problems, facilitating pain relief, relaxation, flexibility, strengthening, and healing.
  • EXCEL Community Fitness Club: open to all members of the community. For a nominal fee, our rehab/fitness equipment is available to members to support their health and fitness program.
  • EXCEL Plus Program: a staff-guided program for individuals who need assistance using the equipment and completing their prescribed health and fitness routine.

Our dedicated multidisciplinary team treats all injuries and diseases of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems and we can also provide advanced specialty care in:

  • Women’s health and pelvic rehabilitation
  • Pediatric physical therapy
  • Work testing and rehabilitation
  • Wound management

To assure reimbursement, please obtain a referral from your physician before calling to schedule therapy.
