About Us
The QHS Pre-Surgery Center is a full-service, pre-operative clinic that provides education and evaluation services to patients who are scheduled for a surgical procedure at The Queen’s Medical Center- Central Oahu, West Oahu, or North Hawaii campus.
We act as a liaison between the hospital, the surgeon and Primary Care Physician (PCP) to ensure the best possible outcomes for the patient.
Our Services
The QHS Pre-Surgery Center works with patients who are scheduled for a surgical procedure at The Queen’s Medical Center to identify high-risk patients and optimization opportunities prior to elective surgery. Based on your need, you may be scheduled for a:
- Medical and anesthesia evaluation with an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
- Medical and anesthesia evaluation appointment with an APRN and be assigned a Navigator who will serve as a liaison within your care team and will ensure you have the knowledge to prevent readmission to the hospital
- Teaching appointment with a Registered Nurse (RN)
We ensure all paperwork necessary for surgery is available in your chart for your surgeon and Primary Care Physician (PCP) to access for follow-up care. The QHS Pre-Surgery Center also provides consultative services in collaboration with:
- Cardiology
- Case Management
- Dental Care
- Endocrinology
- Geriatrics
- Pain and Palliative Care
- Pulmonology
- Social Work
Becoming a Patient
Thank you for choosing Queen’s for your care. Your surgeon or Primary Care Physician (PCP) may refer you to the QHS Pre-Surgery Center to complete paperwork and testing prior to your surgery. The procedures done at the QHS Pre-Surgery Center will help us know if you have any conditions that might negatively impact the outcome of your surgery.
Ask your doctor to refer you for care at the QHS Pre-Surgery Center at The Queen’s Medical Center if you have not already been referred.
What to Expect
Before coming to the QHS Pre-Surgery Center, please complete this questionnaire and bring it with you to your appointment.
Depending on your needs, you may go through:
- Advance care planning assistance
- Anesthesia risk assessment
- Comprehensive pre-operative evaluation
- Consultative services with Endocrinology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Pain and Palliative Care, Dental Care, Geriatrics, Social Work and/or Case Management to address outstanding medical and psychosocial concerns
- Pre-operative and post-operative education, including information on Hibiclens wash, incentive spirometer, early ambulation and oral care
