The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has awarded Silver Beacon Awards for Excellence to both the Queen Emma Tower 4 Medical Intensive Care Unit (QET 4 MICU) and the Queen Emma Tower 7 Diamond Head (QET 7 DH) Trauma Unit at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.
The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes unit caregivers for providing exceptional patient care and creating healthier work environments. Units that earn this annual award with a gold, silver or bronze designation meet specific criteria established by AACN, demonstrating dynamic and outstanding performance in the areas of Patient Outcomes, Nursing Workforce and Work Environment.
The Silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence signifies continuous learning and effective systems to achieve optimal patient care. QET 4 MICU and QET 7 DH Trauma Unit earned their silver awards by integrating AACN’s six essential evidence-based standards:
- Skilled communication
- True collaboration
- Effective decision-making
- Appropriate staffing
- Meaningful recognition
- Authentic leadership
