HONOLULU – The Queen’s Health System (QHS) will open a new family health center to increase primary care access for the people of Hawaii.
The 15,000-square-foot medical office building will be at 91-6390 Kapolei Parkway within the Ocean Pointe subdivision. Nine providers and 30 staff will be housed in the Primary Care Physician office and Diagnostic Laboratories Services will also have several draw stations. The center will have state-of-the-art technology for patients to interact with their clinicians in non-traditional ways. In addition, Queen’s will promote health and wellness activities within the center, inviting the community to participate in these events.
The family health center, subject to state approval, is scheduled to open in winter, 2019.
“Our Queen’s ohana is excited to expand our outpatient services in the West Oahu community,” said Bernadette Merlino, vice president for QHS Ambulatory Services. “We have made a commitment to this community not only to provide acute care and emergency services at The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu, but also to provide a broad array of ambulatory care services such as primary care, after hours/urgent care, diagnostic lab and imaging. Our existing Queen’s Health Care Center in Kapolei is expanding to add more primary care providers and the opening of this second Queen’s family health center in Ocean Pointe will continue to create greater access to this growing community.”
The center, developed in partnership with the Hawaii Medical Service Association, will offer care to patients from all health insurers. The goal of the new family health center will be to provide patients with an enhanced primary care system of health care with regards to quality, service, care and cost. It also will work towards increasing the number of primary care providers and access for all segments of the population.
The medical office building is located within one of the five sites selected for the Blue Zones project designation, a community-based well-being improvement initiative that uses scientifically proven lessons of longevity, health, and happiness to create vibrant communities and boost the well-being of their residents.
