Additional Services We Provide

Birth Certificates

A worksheet will be provided to you by our Vital Statistics Department for official certification of your newborn’s birth. This documentation can be completed during your stay and the Birth Certificate May be ordered through the Department of Health after you are discharged. A social security number for your baby may be requested via the birth certificate if you opt for this.

Breastfeeding

Although breastfeeding is natural, it can take some learning for both mom and baby. We have IBCLC certified lactation consultants and our nurses have been specially trained and are committed to helping you breastfeed your baby during your stay. We can also provide you with information on helpful resources after you leave the hospital.

Car Seat Safety Checks

Before your baby is born, we strongly recommend you have your baby’s car seat installation checked by a certified child passenger safety technician at Queen’s monthly inspection station. 

This is a FREE service provided by The Queen’s Medical Center.

Bring your baby’s car seat along with car seat and vehicle instructions. Inspections take place on the 2nd Saturday, every month from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (schedule subject to change). Appointments last approximately 30 minutes.

Cord Blood Banking

If you are interested in cord blood banking, please discuss with your physician before delivery.

Infant Security

Keeping your baby safe and secure is our top priority. When your child is born, an identification band will be placed on you, your baby and your support person. Your baby will also have a security device attached to his/her ankle so that we know your baby is always on the unit.

Newborn Care

A Neonatologist, a specialist in high-risk newborn care, oversees the nursery at Queen’s in partnership with our Pediatric Hospitalist providers.  

Pediatric Care

You should choose and consult with your pediatrician before you deliver. We will notify your baby’s pediatrician of your delivery. If your chosen pediatrician does not practice at Queen’s, our Pediatric Hospitalist will care for your baby while in the hospital.  We will send applicable medical records to your pediatrician’s office prior to your baby’s first well-baby visit.

Taking Home Your Placenta

If you wish to take home your placenta, you will need to discuss with your physician before delivery, as additional lab tests must be done. All placentas are cleared through the pathology department and must be removed immediately after clearance. No placentas will be released through the nursing unit.
