Nonsurgical, Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program

Because bariatric surgery may not be the right solution for everyone, even if a patient is eligible and qualified, the Queen’s Comprehensive Weight Management Program (CWMP) offers nonsurgical options designed for patients who want to lose weight and improve obesity-related health issues. Our physician-directed, nonsurgical, Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program is based on scientific principles that target the root cause of your excess weight or weight gain issues.

Our team of weight loss professionals is skilled and experienced in weight loss technology and lifestyle management tools. We combine proven program strategies that help our patients achieve long-term success with weight management. Our team provides the compassionate emotional support needed to assist each patient through their personal weight loss journey. Program steps are based on individual goals and objectives and may include:

  • Controlled caloric and nutrient-specific diets
  • Co-morbidity management
  • Exercise and lifestyle interventions
  • Nutrition education and counseling
  • Behavior management strategies
  • Medication management

Losing weight is great, but teaching you how to keep it off is our focus. Ongoing support and the consistent use of weight loss intervention tools are the keys to our long-term weight maintenance program. We schedule follow-up visits, at least monthly, during the initial phase of weight loss so our team can watch for any issues and be proactive about keeping you motivated and healthy. Our multidisciplinary team of professionals is dedicated to your success and will collaborate with you to help you reach your weight loss goals with the solution that is best for your unique needs.

Medically Supervised Weight Loss Options

Queen's Comprehensive Weight Management Program (CWMP) offers many approaches to medically supervised weight loss which may include a combination of the following options.

Metabolic Rate and Energy Expenditure Testing

This testing determines the number of calories you need to consume to lose weight. This test helps the bariatric physician to individualize your physician-supervised weight loss program.

QUICK 20

QUICK 20 is a specialized, partial meal replacement weight loss program that is designed to help you lose 10 to 20 pounds (or 10% of your body weight) quickly and safely, utilizing the New Direction meal replacement products. QUICK 20 allows you to enjoy a healthy daily meal of your choice in conjunction with the meal replacement program. With a medical screening exam and monitoring every other week, QUICK 20 places your body in a state of ketosis, which maximizes fat burning while minimizing hunger.

Individualized Meal Planning

The goal of Individualized Meal Planning is to maintain a well-balanced diet by planning ahead. Meal plans and food logs are used to improve self-accountability and increase nutrition awareness, and may include meal replacements based on your needs.

Most patients will use a variation of individual meal planning and will learn about putting protein first, the importance of eating fruits and vegetables, and how to manage carbohydrates and fats. You will learn how to read food labels and quickly assess the quality of nutrition your body demands for improved performance and long-term health. Snacking and mindless eating discussions occur at each visit so we can improve caloric value and increase nutritional strength.

Fitness

Program participants undergo body composition analysis and are provided information on various exercise options, including walking groups, gyms, and pools. Physician directed physical therapy and aqua therapy are ordered as needed. You may be given an exercise prescription based upon your exercise preferences and medical issues. Your CWMP health professionals will help you learn how and why exercise is key to a healthy lifestyle.

Medications

Weight loss medications are a tool which we employ only with those who have already demonstrated healthy nutrition and lifestyle behaviors. These medications are only considered after a thorough evaluation of your medical and psychological health conditions affecting weight loss as well as the establishment of a well-rounded treatment regimen. Although nothing is a substitute for excellent lifestyle and nutrition management, some patients truly benefit from the extra restraint that medications provide.

Some medications are approved for use for up to a year and generally provide an average 5-10% weight loss. While they often are not covered by health plans and can be expensive, when used wisely, these newer medications can be an optional support tool that works best when combined with a robust program of support.
